The #HumanPlan To End Street Homelessness

Homelessness is not a result of “tolerable” living conditions in the streets. It is the result of deep economic and structural societal problems that leave our most vulnerable and traumatized neighbors out in the cold. Carrots and sticks cannot motivate people out of homelessness because nobody really voluntarily jumps into it.

Real solutions always involve housing and dignity. And while it may take some time for New York City to fully be able to offer the former, we should at least try offering the latter.

Explore the platform’s four pillars below.

Behind the Research

In conjunction with unsheltered homeless New Yorkers, Human.nyc has put forth a platform to end street homelessness. All candidates running for city-wide elected office are free to adopt all or some of the four pillars of The Human Plan while understanding that a holistic approach that incorporates all four pillars will provide the most effective results.

In addition to recommendations set forth by homeless New Yorkers, the #HumanPlan received advisory support from anonymous homeless outreach workers, anonymous City employees, homeless and housing advocates, and academic researchers.

As a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, Human.nyc does not endorse or oppose, in any capacity, any candidates running for elected office. Candidates, however, are free to endorse and share the #HumanPlan.

The #HumanPlan is dedicated to Nikita Price.
